Mahinda With Youngest Son

Corporal Mahinda Eidirisooriya lost both hands and both eyes in a route clearing operation in 1991 when he was only 20 years of age. He met his loving wife after the injury and now they have two young sons aged 14 and 5. Mahinda who has been blind for the past 18 years has not seen his children nor his wife.

He was examined by Dr. Rajesh Fogla at the Lanka Hospitals and was advised that he could regain sight in one eye by undergoing a Boston Keratopathesis surgery. The surgery was estimated to cost Rs 250,000.00 Mahinda secured funding from the Army and the Ranaviru Seva Authority and approached us to raise the balance. Ranaviru Fund with the generous help of five donors raised the balance Rs 137,000.00

Mahinda underwent surgery on 01 Sep 2010, and three weeks later, several members of the Ranaviru Fund visited Mahinda at his residence. Mahinda described to us that he’s noticing an improvement everyday. He told us with excitement that he could identify the shape of the grills when the morning sunlight comes through the window into his room.

Mahinda anxiously waits the healing of surgical wounds to see his loving wife and two sons for the very first time.
