There are a number of soldiers rehabilitated at Ranaviru Sevana, Ragama waiting to return home to rejoin their families. However, most of these valiant soldiers have suffered permanent disabilities and require disable friendly wash room facilities at their residences in order to get back to their homes. Many of these soldiers do not have access to suitable wash room and water facilities. Ranaviru Fund has initiated a project to provide suitable wash room and water facilities for the soldiers recommended by the Ranaviru Sevana authorities.

We have received names of 9 such soldiers from different parts of the country and have selected 3 of them in Anuradhapura district to pilot the project. Following are the latest picture updates from the first 3 wash rooms being built in Anuradhapura district.

Wash Room for Corporal David of Galenbindunuwewa, Anuradhapura

  • Email

Corporal K.D. suffered injuries to his eyes and hands while serving the Nation in Adampan on 08 April 2008. Subsequently he completely lost sight in his right eye and partially lost sight in the left eye. Also couple of fingures were amputated in his right hand due to the injuries. Coporal K.D. is a father of two children, elder one is 9 years old and the younger one is only 18 months old. He lives in Galenbindunuwewa, Medawachchiya in Anuradhapura District.

Coporal K.D. currently doesn't have toilet facility for his own home and shares his parent's toilet next door with another family nearby and walks few hundred yards to that toilet when needed. He can make his way around the house but cannot recognise objects or persons. Also he takes time to respond.

An initial estimate of some Rs. 200,000.00 was done by a local builder some 7 months ago at the request of a potential donor, which was never fulfilled. Ranaviru Fund identified Corporal K.D.'s requirement of a new wash room with a high priority. A new wash room of 7'x7'x8' was planned, designed and estimated to be completed within maximum of Rs. 150,000.00. Ranaviru Fund has provided the initial funds and the construction of the new wash room was started on the 06th of September.

Corporal K.D's wash room construction was completed as of 04 Nov 2009.
