Sandasi Mihisandi is the daughter of Special Task Force (STF) Inspector B. L. Siripala. Little Sandasi is suffering from profound hearing loss in both ears and she also has undergone a heart surgery. Ranavirufund, through the generous help of donors was able to get a very powerful hearing aid for her, but it was not help her condition as it could only be rectified through a very expensive cochlear implant surgery.
Sandasi's mother, through sheer determination and perseverance, raised the funds needed for the very expensive cochlear implants and Sandasi underwent a successful surgery in March 2013. In order to get the full benefit of the surgery, Sandasi now has to undergo speech therapy in Kandy. Sandasi’s home town is Matara, thus, her parents will have to rent a house in Kandy for a few years so that Sandasi could attend regular speech therapy sessions. Sandasi's parents need to raise 150,000/- before they could start speech therapy lessons. Breakdown of the expenses given below;
- A house is available for Rs.8,000/- monthly rental. Six months rent advance, Rs.48,000/-, is required to rent this house.
- The hearing aid runs on a battery which costs about Rs.25,000/-. Two batteries are needed. The battery has a life span of 2 years.
- One session of speech therapy costs 750/- and there will be two sessions each week. Cost of speech therapy sessions for six months is 36,000/-
Having raised ruppees 3.2 million for the cochlear implant surgery, Sandasi's parents have exhasted all their savings and also exhasted all potential donors who could be tapped to help with the speech therapy costs. Ranaviru fund has promised her mother that we will help her raise this amount so that Sandasi can reap the benefits of the cochlear implant surgery without further delay. If you would like to help Sandasi please download the donation pledge form (on the right) and follow the instructions.
