Ranaviru Child with Medical Needs - K.L.D Madusha Liyanage
Seventeen year old Madusha Liyanage has been suffering from Liver Cirrhosis for the past three (03) years. She is currently studying for A/Ls and has two younger siblings. Madusha needs to undergo a liver transplant surgery to save her life. This surgery will be performed free of charge at the Colombo North Liver Transplantation Service, but cost of medicine and tests are estimated to be Rs 750,000.00. Madusha's father who is a Staff Sergeant earns about Rs 21,000.00 a month and is not in a position to raise this amount on his own. He already has spent all his life's earning for his daughter’s treatment in the past three years. Staff Sargent Liynage has managed to raise Rs 100,000.00 from the Ranaviru Seva Authority and his army regiment, he also hopes to raise about Rs 150,000.00 through the presidents fund. Ranaviru Dund has pledged to raise as much as possible of the balance Rs 500,000.00 required to save the life of his precious young daughter.
Update 18-01-2014: The target amount of Rs.500,000.00 was raised. A cheque worth of Rs 470,000.00 issued to the Colombo North Liver Transplantation Service. Additionally Rs 33,000.00 was deposited into child's father's account directly to help cope with the various medical tests before the surgery. Madusha's name is in the waiting list and her surgery will be done after she receives a matching liver.
Ranaviru Child with Medical Needs - J.M.Sandani T Jayasundara
J.M.S.T Jayasundara (14 years) of Dimbulagala has a deformity in the spine and needed urgent surgical correction. The surgery was performed at the National Hospital by Dr. Vasantha Perera (Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon). The implants for the surgery were given by the Health Ministry. Father of the child is earning around 30,000/- a month and after loan deductions receives only 19,000/- to his hand.
Sandani was admitted to the General Hospital in December 2012. First surgery was done in January 2013 to repair the lungs that has got damaged due to the curvature. A 10+ hour surgery was performed on 22-Fed-2013 to fix the curevature in spine.
Following doctors advice sanadani needs to wear a metal jacket for a few months and her father was advised to replace the squatting pan in the toilet with a commode. Furthermore she will need to travel home in an ambulance after she is discharged. Ranaviru fund through the help of donors raised 75,000/- for the aforementioned expenses.
[Update 2013.04.08] - Sandani was allowed to get down from the bed after three months. She had been delighted as she was able to walk straight and because she had also grown a few inches taller due to the stratightening of the spine. Sandani will soon be discharged from the hospital. She will have to stay home for a few more months as it is not advisable to commute to school. We are appealing to donors to please contact us if you would like to help bear the costs of home tuition for a few months until she is able to resume schooling again.
Ranaviru Child with Medical Needs - B.L.P Sandasi Mihisandi
Sandasi Mihisandi is the daughter of Special Task Force (STF) Inspector B. L. Siripala. Little Sandasi is suffering from profound hearing loss in both ears and she also has undergone a heart surgery. Ranavirufund, through the generous help of donors was able to get a very powerful hearing aid for her, but it was not help her condition as it could only be rectified through a very expensive cochlear implant surgery.
Sandasi's mother, through sheer determination and perseverance, raised the funds needed for the very expensive cochlear implants and Sandasi underwent a successful surgery in March 2013. In order to get the full benefit of the surgery, Sandasi now has to undergo speech therapy in Kandy. Sandasi’s home town is Matara, thus, her parents will have to rent a house in Kandy for a few years so that Sandasi could attend regular speech therapy sessions. Sandasi's parents need to raise 150,000/- before they could start speech therapy lessons. Breakdown of the expenses given below;
- A house is available for Rs.8,000/- monthly rental. Six months rent advance, Rs.48,000/-, is required to rent this house.
- The hearing aid runs on a battery which costs about Rs.25,000/-. Two batteries are needed. The battery has a life span of 2 years.
- One session of speech therapy costs 750/- and there will be two sessions each week. Cost of speech therapy sessions for six months is 36,000/-
Having raised ruppees 3.2 million for the cochlear implant surgery, Sandasi's parents have exhasted all their savings and also exhasted all potential donors who could be tapped to help with the speech therapy costs. Ranaviru fund has promised her mother that we will help her raise this amount so that Sandasi can reap the benefits of the cochlear implant surgery without further delay.
